How to ask a ChatGPT question
Let’s learn how to communicate with text neural networks using ChatGPT as an example – this is the most famous neural network, which is used by the most people. You can communicate with other neural networks in the same way.
Here’s a short list of the main points that will help you get the most relevant responses:
- Tell the bot that it is an expert in your question. For example: “you are an SEO expert, analyze meta tags and select keywords”.
- Set a precise task. For example: “your task is to gather a list of keywords”.
- Tell the order of steps in which you need to accomplish the task.
- Set limits. For example: “don’t take keyword X or a keyword phrase that contains the word Y”.
- Explain what the answer should look like. For example: “the prepared keys came in the form of a numbered list”.
- Specify the format of the answer. For example: “when you are finished, send all the keys at once”.
Important features that will help make your answer more accurate
Give hints. Hints help to give context and make the machine’s job easier. For example, when creating an article, you can give a link to some reference and at the end of the query add: “use the linked article as an example”.
When doing so, make sure your prompts are precise and clear. Avoid long sentences with lots of subparagraphs. For example, don’t give prompts like “do as in article X from the example article, but add this and this, and then take the informatiWhen doing so, make sure your prompts are precise and clear. Avoid long sentences with lots of subparagraphs. For example, don’t give prompts like “do as in article X from the example article, but add this and this, and then take the information from article Y this and this and combine it all into one.” on from article Y this and this and combine it all into one.”
This will only confuse the robot – and you’ll get mush in return.
Provide context. This is how the robot will understand for which audience it should prepare the material. For example, say: “Write an article about investing and diversification. It is important that it should be understandable to 18-year-old girls and guys who do not understand finance.” In this way, the neural network will realize that all complex terms need to be explained, examples added, etc.
Write simply. Choose words that are easy to understand and that will help the tool better interpret the context. For example, instead of using the phrase “white blood cells”, write the word “leukocytes”. In addition, do not write jargonisms or use slang in the query – the bot may not know them and therefore will misunderstand the meaning of the question.
Don’t ask one-word and general questions. Don’t write questions that a bot can answer with a yes or no. Also, don’t ask general questions like “how to write an article on marketing trends”. Instead, add specifics like “how to write an article about marketing trends in 2023” or “come up with an outline for an article about marketing trends for 2023.”
The more specific your question, the more complete the answer will be.
The second way is to make the answer more accurate using the power of the neural network itself
This method was shared on Twitter by Rowan Cheung, an artificial intelligence expert.
He told how to make ChatGPT write prompts for the user.
Step one. Spell out “You are a robot to create prompts. You need to gather information about user goals and objectives, examples of preferred output, and any other information.
The prompts should contain all the information you need based on the information you are given. Ask follow-up questions until you are confident that you have created the best possible hint.
At the same time, your message should be formatted for easy interaction with ChatGPT. Start by asking the user about their goals, the desired outcome of the prompt, and ask for any additional information you feel is necessary.
Step two. Answering questions from the neural network. In the Twitter example, a developer has requested that ChatGPT generate a business plan for him. The product for which the business plan is needed is a newsletter called “X”.
Step three. ChatGPT will send some more questions for the user to answer. In the Twitter example, the bot asked who the product’s target audience is, what the company’s UTP is, etc.
When the user answers these questions, ChatGPT will ask new ones or generate a full answer with a detailed business plan.
The third method is self prompting
This method can be called double prompting. How it works: first you write a query to the bot. For example: “I want to write a text about flower delivery, which I will publish in my Instagram* account. Then you need to explain to the bot what you’re trying to do – “Write a quality query to you to help you formulate a good prompt”.
In the next line, you need to ask ChatGPT to better phrase your prompt. For example, like this, “Write a prompt that I can use to request text from you to post to my Instagram* account. It’s important that it motivates people to checkout and tells something interesting.”
The fourth way is to ask the bot to communicate with itself
A Twitter user has invented a prompt that makes ChatGPT communicate with itself.
The essence of the prompt is simple: in the request you should tell the bot to alternate between communication on behalf of a helper and a regular user: “Your task is to alternate between a helper and a user”.
Then explain when and on whose behalf it should respond: “I will specify whether to respond or continue to respond as a helper or as a user by writing user or assistant. As a user you are trying to solve a problem, and as an assistant you are trying to help the user.” And at the end, spell out the question you’re interested in, ostensibly asked by a bot: “Your task as a user is (___________)”. Now start asking as a user.
The fifth way is to ask the bot to ask questions if it doesn’t understand you
This method will work if you are communicating with a neural network and can’t explain to it what you need. For example, you want to come up with a content plan with the bot for a month, but it suggests topics that have already been published on the blog or do not fit your target audience.
In that case, you can tell the bot, “That’s not really what you need. Maybe you don’t understand the task. Ask me more questions to make it easier for you to decide on topics.”
In response, the bot will send you a few questions to answer in as much detail as possible. This will help it work through your request and answer it more precisely. After that, it will send a new answer that will be more relevant to your query.
